Wiggle beta
Limits of the Wiggle beta
Wiggle is in beta, and some things work differently from what you might expect, or not yet. These are the limits beta households ask about most, with what is going on and what to expect. If what you see is not a limit listed here, it may be a bug: see the known issues, or write to us.
Octopus data arrives late
Wiggle reads your usage and charging information from Octopus. Octopus does not always pass it on straight away. Half-hourly figures, and some of the detail about charging sessions, can arrive hours later, and occasionally longer. Until they arrive, Wiggle shows what it can work out from other sources, and says so.
When Octopus catches up, Wiggle fills the gaps in and the figures can change. You do not need to do anything. If a day still looks incomplete after a couple of days, tell us the date and we will look.
Estimated and measured figures
A measured figure comes from a meter or device reading. An estimated figure is worked out from something else, for example from how long a car was charging and your tariff rates, because the measured reading had not arrived or was not available.
That is why a cost can change later. When Octopus's own figures turn up, they replace the estimate, and the total moves. Estimated figures are labelled as such in the app. They are not your bill: your bill comes from Octopus.
Intelligent Octopus Go charging shown against Octopus's plan
If you are on Intelligent Octopus Go, Octopus decides when your car charges. Wiggle shows the charging against the plan Octopus gave, so you can see what happened. Octopus can change a plan part-way through a charge, so what Wiggle shows can differ from the plan you saw earlier in the evening.
For a household on Intelligent Octopus Go, Wiggle does not take over the charging that Octopus manages. If the car did not charge when you expected, our Intelligent Octopus Go guide covers the usual causes.
Homes without a Home Mini
An Octopus Home Mini gives Wiggle readings from your smart meter close to the time they happen. Without one, Wiggle has to rely on the half-hourly figures Octopus publishes later, plus readings from any other connected devices. So expect less detail, more estimated figures and a longer wait before a day looks complete.
Your Octopus API key and how to revoke it
To read your data, Wiggle asks for your Octopus API key. That key belongs to your whole Octopus account, not just to Wiggle: it is not limited to the information Wiggle needs. Treat it like a password, and share it only where you have chosen to.
You can stop Wiggle using it at any time. In the app, open Settings, then Connections, and disconnect Octopus. If you want to be certain nobody can use the key afterwards, ask Octopus to replace it: Octopus support can tell you how, and once the key is replaced the old one stops working.
